ICRC Humanitarium, Avenue de la Paix, 1202 Geneva, Suisse

MEETING POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC TO August 26-27, 2021! On behalf of the University of Geneva, the ICRC and the ENFSI EWG SoC Group Forensic Archaeology we are delighted to invite you to the 9th European Meeting on Forensic Archaeology (EMFA 2020) taking place in Geneva (Switzerland). EMFA 2020 will be organised by the University of Geneva in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Humanitarium at the ICRC Head Quarter, which is in the beautiful international area of Geneva.

EMFA 2021

This scientific meeting will bring together practitioners, researchers and educators from around Europe and beyond who are engaged in the field of forensic archaeology. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the current state and future developments of forensic archaeology; to meet and engage with colleagues; to present forensic case studies, research and development in the following areas: archaeology, anthropology, GIS, geophysics, human taphonomy, geology and the destruction of cultural heritage; and to inform you about the advancement of the ENFSI forum for Forensic Archaeology.

Dear Colleagues,

After careful consideration and evaluation of all information related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University Center of Legal Medicine Lausanne - Geneva (CURML), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the EMFA board has made the difficult decision to postpone the meeting originally planned for August 20-21, 2020 in Geneva, Switzerland to August 26-27, 2021. This was not an easy decision to make, but due to the current situation we had no other option.

The good news are, the EMFA meeting in Geneva is not cancelled. We are investigating the possibility to hold a dual virtual and in-person meeting in August 2021. More information on the face-to-face meeting possibility and on virtual participation will be provided closer to the event date (in June). We are looking forward to the opportunity to meet you virtually and in the beautiful city of Geneva during the summer time in 2021.

The abstract submission process will be open for 2021 and you can continue to send in your abstracts. Furthermore, we will keep all submitted abstracts. If you wish to update or present a new research topic, feel free to modify or submit a new abstract. Participants who have already paid the fee can maintain the registration as it will be valid for EMFA 2021. Please let us know if you wish a refund.

The new deadlines for abstract submission is extended until 31st of May 2021, and deadline for registration will be the 15th July 2021. The conference website (https://www.xing-events.com/EMFA2020.html) will be kept open. New dates and all relevant information will be updated.

In the meantime, we welcome your questions (info-emfa2020@unige.ch) and we thank you very much for your understanding and your support. We wish you and your loved ones good health throughout this difficult time.

We look forward to seeing all of you in Geneva in 2021!

Kind regards,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee
Dr Negahnaz Moghaddam

We hope you will stay safe and healthy!
