IPCC Job Offer: Head of the Technical Support Unit for the Synthesis Report (SYR TSU)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is filling the position of the Head of the Technical Support Unit for the Synthesis Report (SYR TSU).

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the intergovernmental body for assessing the science related to climate change, providing policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and future risks, and options for adaptation and mitigation.

The IPCC is in the process of preparing the Synthesis Report of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Reports, which will synthesize and integrate materials contained within the Assessment Reports and Special Reports to address policy-relevant questions approved by the IPCC.

The Chair of the IPCC seeks to recruit a Head of the Technical Support Unit for the Synthesis Report (SYR TSU). Under the supervision of the IPCC Chair, the Head of SYR TSU is responsible for managing all aspects of TSU operation for preparing, developing, and facilitating approval of the highest quality SYR. The Head of SYR TSU should have an advanced degree in a relevant discipline, substantial expertise in the holistic approach to climate analysis, ability to work with the authors of the SYR, ability to plan deadlines and their implementation in coordination with the relevant bodies of the IPCC, and fluency in written and spoken English. Experience working with the IPCC would be an asset.

The incumbent will report to the Chair of the IPCC. The position funded by the Korean Government is limited up to three years until the completion of the AR6 cycle; the salary will be an international scale; the location will be flexible.
