The "National Committee of the International Union of Geological Sciences" (NC IUGS) as part of the Swiss Academy of the Natural Sciences (SCNAT) builds a bridge between the Swiss field of research and the "international Union of Geological Sciences" (IUGS).
IUGS is a global umbrella organization for geological matters, which promotes research aspirations in the field of Earth Sciences. NC IUGS therefore represents Switzerland’s interests. Moreover, it coordinates and supports Swiss participation in projects such as the «International Geoscience Programme» (IGCP), a joint project of IUGS and UNESCO.

NC IUGS is a working group within the Platform Geosciences.
