The Cercle d’études scientifiques (CES) is the natural science research group belonging to the Société jurassienne d’émulation (SJE). It encompasses various disciplines in the field of natural science including geology, paleontology, botany, zoology, parasitology, ecology, astronomy and many more.
CES aims at promoting research and education of natural science in the canton of Jura with the help of external partners. CES intends to spread the fascination for the field among the younger generation. CES considers itself a connector of society, science and politicking. The activities of CES include the publication of the “Annales de sciences naturelles en Pays jurassien” and a close cooperation with “Société d'histoire naturelle du Pays de Montbéliard” (France). Periodically, the CES honours the achievements of scientists with a connection to the Jura. This prize might be awarded for an outstanding Bachelor or Master Thesis, for instance. A calendar containing the information to the CES’s recent activities is available on the internet, on the SJE’s web domain.
