The Swiss Society for Astrophysics and Astronomy (SSAA) aims to promote the study and the research in the fields of astrophysics and astronomy, to develop in Switzerland mutual information and collaboration between astronomers and to support their joint scientific efforts.
The SSAA is involved in the training of researchers by organising specialised courses. Since 1971, the Saas-Fee courses are organised each year on a topic chosen by the members during the annual meeting. Since 1990, the lecture notes of these courses are published by Springer in the book series «Saas-Fee Advanced Course». Videotapes and course materials are also available online. Further, the SSAA aims at developing interactions with foreign institutions and informs on the purposes and requirements of astronomical research.
