First images of the Euclid space telescope
The Euclid space telescope has sent the first images from its journey through space to Earth. These show the potential of the telescope, which has been on its way since 1 July.
Euclid is designed to map as much of the sky as possible. This should provide researchers with more information on the expansion of the universe and enable them to better understand dark energy and dark matter.
Euclid struggled with technical problems during the test phase. The scientists are now all the more pleased with the high quality of the first images. This means that individual celestial objects can already be analysed. However, it is not yet possible to make statements about the expansion and development of the universe.
From Switzerland, the University of Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, the University of Geneva and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland are involved in the project.
