Climate impact of potential shale gas production in the EU

Final report of the AEA Technology for European Union Commission DG CLIMA

This report examines the potential climate impacts of shale gas production in the EU. It reviews the existing estimates of GHG emissions from shale gas production and of the potential options for abating emissions from shale gas processes. This evidence is used to estimate the potential emissions that might be associated with shale gas exploitation in the EU. The report also reviews the current legislative framework in the EU for controlling GHG emissions from shale gas operations and examines the current GHG emissions reporting framework.
