The Commission promotes young people's interest in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). It helps to address the lack of well-trained professionals in certain professions.
The committee has identified the following four challenges to be addressed by the academy: a.) children and adolescents should be enthused for the natural sciences during their forming school years, b.) qualified professionals in their field should be made available to research, industrial field as well as to the economy, c.) the natural sciences should be recognized as cultural heritage, which seeks to transmit knowledge, and finally d.) The academy should actively partake in the fields of adolescent promotion and education on a national scale.
The project “Patenschaft für Maturaarbeiten” is a mediating offer with the aim of fostering direct exchange between experts of a specific scientific field, students and also their teachers.
Educa.MINT, a panel which has emerged out of a collaboration between various partners, supports teaching staff. It encourages teachers to effectively locate information about class-complementary offers in the field of Mathematics, Computer Science, the Natural Sciences as well as Technology (MINT). This committee furthermore supports activities organized by membership organizations and partners of SCNAT (e.g. “Science on Stage” www.science-on-stage.ch).
