The SCFA represents the main link between professional astronomers and the State Secretariat for Education and Research in order to facilitate political decisions related to the long-term scientific policy of Switzerland in relation to astronomy.
In international scientific organisations such as the European Southern Observatory and the International Astronomical Union, the SCFA is the official representative of the Swiss astronomy community.
