With its topic-based working groups and inter- and transdisciplinary focus, the platform addresses urgent societal challenges, based on sustainable development. It sees itself as a hub for a solution-oriented dialogue between science and society.
The forums and committees of the platform provide well-founded up-to-date scientific information on various current issues, which are socially relevant (level of knowledge). They work as a an interface between science and the general public. They advise the administration and the politics on topics of current political discussions and connect to experts’ knowledge on specific questions (knowledge transfer). They support the networking of national and international researchers in their specific topics and coordinate the collaboration with international conventions, research programs and evaluation reports (networking). They indicate the concerns of politics and administration to research and relay new scientific knowledge that enables the opening and expansion of the options of action for politics and society (early diagnosis).
