Sustainability Research Initiative

With the Sustainability Research Initiative, SCNAT, together with its sister institutions, promotes research on sustainable development and 2030 Agenda. It focuses on the joint handling of social issues of higher priority in overarching consortia.
With the Sustainability Research Initiative, the Swiss Academy of Sciences, together with the other members of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences, aims at strengthening sustainability research. It promotes scientific contributions for the sustainable development of society. Particular attention is paid to inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation.
The strategic goals are to:
a. promote a network of researchers in Switzerland and internationally both within disciplines and across disciplines,
b. connect Swiss sustainability research with key stakeholders and promote their cooperation;
c. identify socially relevant research topics both for Switzerland and at an international scale;
d. strengthen sustainability research among research promoters and in science policy;
e. help to shape the public discourse on sustainable development.
