Job Description

In the last decade, the Forensic Anthropology Center (FAC) has provided professional training to over 2,000 external partners including law enforcement agents, medico legal personnel, international experts, and college students. The Training and Outreach Coordinator will organize approximately 12-15 training courses annually that vary in content and delivery format based on specific training needs. Courses may include lectures, hands-on laboratory exercises, and/or human remains recovery depending upon the agency needs. The position includes assisting the FAC in body donor management as related to training needs.

In addition to professional training, the FAC has a robust outreach program focused on age-appropriate school groups and general public groups that relays information about forensic anthropology, the FAC, and the University of Tennessee. Presentations typically highlight the contributions of the FAC to forensic anthropology, FAC research, and our body donation program. This position is responsible for building relationships with community organizations, coordinating events, managing personnel, and overseeing the FAC’s social media presence.

The FAC Training and Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in expanding awareness, engagement, and participation in our programs and the mission of the FAC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training exercises using FAC resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations and community partners (e.g. schools, scout groups, youth programs, adult learning programs); international, federal and local agencies; and other colleges and universities.
  • Increase the number of training courses offered per year.
  • Recruit anthropology faculty and graduate students as well as external partners for course delivery.
  • Develop and implement outreach plans to increase community engagement.
  • Represent the FAC at community events, professional meetings, and public presentations.
  • Plan, promote, and coordinate training and outreach events, workshops, and activities.
  • Track training and outreach metrics and prepare reports to measure impact and growth.
  • Monitor expenditures and supply needs for delivery of the training courses.
  • Assist with body donation program management for training needs.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or related field

Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience communicating with the public

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of continuing education requirements for different units and agencies
  • Knowledge of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements
  • Knowledge of basic forensic anthropology and archaeology methods
  • Knowledge of ethics in handling human remains
  • Skills in maintaining organized practices while scheduling multiple trainings or outreach
  • Skills in communication with diverse audiences
  • Skills in encouraging participation in outreach
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to instruct and manage students

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Anthropology or related field

Experience: Minimum one year of experience communicating with the public

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Skills in using Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, and social media apps.

  • UT market range: MR08
  • Anticipated hiring range: $50,000 - $53,000, based on experience and qualifications
