From food insecurity, climate change impact and biodiversity loss, to gender inequalities, poverty, outmigration and loss of traditional knowledge, mountain areas face significant challenges today. But with challenges come opportunities, and we believe in the power of innovative solutions to create a sustainable tomorrow.

To celebrate International Mountain Day 2024, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites institutions and individuals over 18 to submit proposals for transformative projects. Winning projects will receive seed funding of USD 5,000 and project incubation assistance from the FAO Mountain Partnership Secretariat.

Project submissions should emphasize the following areas:

Innovation: Emphasize technological, social, policy, financial, or institutional innovations that address complex social, economic and environmental challenges in mountains.
Adaptation: Promote climate adaptation through strategies tailored to mountain ecosystems and communities, resilient agrifood systems, climate-smart agriculture, ecosystem-based approaches, Indigenous and traditional knowledge systems, or circular economy promotion.
Youth: Highlight youth leadership and involvement in decision-making, training and empowerment opportunities that contribute to sustainable mountain solutions.
