HotSpot – New Publication of the Swiss Biodiversity Forum
The Swiss Biodiversity Forum is the information platform on Biodiversity in Switzerland. Its main task is to establish a network of scientists, practitioners, and policy-makers. All individuals and institutions working in the field of biodiversity are invited to take part in an active exchange of information with the Forum.

The Forum's aims are:
- to promote scientific knowledge about biological diversity and its maintenance.
- to evaluate existing knowledge gaps.
- to stimulate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects.
- to facilitate the integration of Swiss biodiversity researchers into international programmes.
- to provide scientific support for the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
- to intensify communication between researchers, land-users, nature and landscape conservation agencies, administrative authorities and the public.
HOTSPOT is the new publication of the Swiss Biodiversity Forum. It represents a means for knowledge exchange between experts from all disciplines and institutions dealing with biological diversity. Hotspot informs regularly about what is happening around biodiversity in our country and worldwide and appears twice a year in German and French.
It consists of two main parts: the Focus and the Journal. The Focus concentrates on a current topic within the biodiversity context that is first being presented and then discussed from different points of view. The Journal informs you about the Forum's activities and introduces new publications, research and teaching as well as organisations concerned with biodiversity. Besides, the Events Calendar keeps you up to date about conferences, workshops and expositions.
The Focus of the first issue deals with a hot topic: for many years, Swiss researchers have been postulating the setting up of a national biodiversity strategy, i. e. a comprehensive concept on how to preserve and use biological diversity in a sustainable way. Scientists on one hand, and the concerned Federal Office on the other hand, express their opinion on this peculiar issue. In three other articles, scientists demonstrate their way to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in our country.
