Farm structure census 2015 – Farms: between decline and stability

Switzerland had 53,232 farms in 2015, i.e. 814 (-1.5%) fewer than in 2014. The total utilised agricultural area (1.05 million hectares) remained stable (-0.2%) whereas 155,200 jobs were counted in agriculture, i.e. a drop of 2.3% compared with the previous year. These findings are based on the farm structure census 2015 compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
