Let’s do it! Successful measures to close the gap
Solutions that can help mitigate the social loss of the academic leaky pipeline include recruitment practices at institutions of higher education and research or flexible child care. Recruitment regulation, quality control and important issues to promote women with children in leading positions will be discussed.
The role of funding policies and the use of quota
The allocation of financial support for research by academic institutions or by funding agencies may have a major impact on gender equality in science and research. This webinar explores the potential and limitations of gender quota in the recruitment and financial support of women in academia.
Sustainability Science Dialogue - A migration perspective on visions of a sustainable future
The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action adopted by all Member States. Switzerland is not on track to meet the SDGs. How can science best contribute to accelerating this process? The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences have identified six priority themes which outline the most pressing respective research needs. This event aims to discuss shared visions of a sustainable future by placing migration and peace at the centre of the discussion.
The term “excellence” is extensively used in academic research to justify and target funding and recruitment decisions and policies. In this webinar, we invite our participants to an open critique of the concept of excellence. The Better Science Initiative calls for a rethink in academia towards more sustainability, diversity and equal opportunities.
I did it! Experiences from leading scientists
Women who have attained leading positions may on their career path have been confronted with specific, gender related challenges. During the panel discussion, female professors and leaders will inform about their career path. They will include highlights and motivation of their career, the hurdles that they have encountered, and their solutions to overcome them. The interviews will address the significance of individual versus institutional and societal boundary conditions. Finally, the webinar aims to present experienced leaders to inspire young female scientists.
I want it! Career experiences by young scientists
Female junior and advanced scientists, yet without a permanent position, share their experiences and their expectations regarding gender equality and diversity. They will present their career path and indicate highlights and hurdles of their professional development. During the panel discussion individual experiences as well as the role of institutional and societal boundary conditions will be addressed.
Sustainability Science Dialogue + Opening event of the UniFR_ESH Institute
During three parallel workshop sessions focussed on different themes, research and teaching staff of the University of Fribourg will be discussing how science can best contribute to the transformation to sustainability. The workshops will be followed by the formal opening of the new Environmental Sciences and Humanities Institute and an apéro.
19th Swiss Geoscience Meeting 2021, online
The Section of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Geneva and the Platform Geosciences of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) cordially invite you to participate in the 19th Swiss Geoscience Meeting to be held online on Friday, 19 November and Saturday, 20 November, 2021
SGM 2021: Symposium «Hydrology and Hydrogeology»
This symposium is part of the 19th Swiss Geoscience Meeting from 19 to 20 November 2021. This session is open to contributions dealing with hydrology and hydrogeology at all spatial and time scales: from global, continental, catchment to pore scale and processes occurring at the scale of a few minutes, hours or years Contributions demonstrating interdisciplinary approaches, such as groundwater-surface water interactions, are encouraged. The session is expected to share the same poster session with the Limnology session to maintain an integrated view of the water resource.
Research for societal transformation
Science has an essential role to play in enabling the societal transformation necessary for achieving sustainability. Indeed, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development explicitly calls upon the academic community to provide the research and expert knowledge needed to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Rigi Workshop 2022: Cell Biology of Infection
Do you want to increase your knowledge in the broad field of cell biology of infection? Join the 3-day workshop at the top of the Rigi mountain, one of the most scenic spots in Switzerland. You will develop your scientific network and discuss your research with other young scientists and experts in a friendly atmosphere.
22nd Swiss Global Change Day
The Swiss Global Change Day is the once a year event organised by ProClim where well-known experts present challenges and highlights of climate and global change research covering a broad range of topics. This year, the focus is on the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC. It is also an opportunity to show research results by posters and to discuss them with colleagues. The most attractive and comprehensive posters will be honoured with a travel award of CHF 1000.–.
Klimakommunikation in Krisenzeiten».
