Storia della SCNAT

Already when it was established in 1815, the Academy was a scientific organisation turning to society: the geological maps were important for railway and road construction projects of the Swiss Confederation, meteorological and hydrological research improved weather forecasts. Then again, the SCNAT Commission for Nature Conservation evolved into the Swiss National Park and the Swiss Conservation Association, today’s Pro Natura. In the 21st century, the SCNAT advises politics and society on questions of sustainability: climate, energy, biodiversity, spatial use, resources.
