The theme of the conference is Contested Spaces: Bridging Protection and Development in a Globalizing World. It problematizes the relationship between protection and development that is central to society and resource management nexus.
This year the conference takes place in Umeå, situated in beautiful northern Sweden.
Since its inception in 1986, the ISSRM conference has always had a broad focus that encompasses a wide variety of international resource management issues, environmental justice, collaborative stakeholder processes, and the social impacts of natural resource management.
Session proposals and abstracts are welcome across the range of ISSRM-related fields, including
- The Role of Globalization and Urbanization in Local Development and Protection Debates
- Living and Working in Several Places: The Development of New Rural-Urban Relations
- Place Attachment, Environmental Attitudes and Values
