The mission of the Swiss Society of Nutrition SSN is to inform the population on all questions related to a balanced nutrition. The SSN gives scientifically-based directives at the level of information, education and training. Further, the SSN promotes the communication and the collaboration between science, authorities, the general public and stakeholders dealing with nutrition on a practical plan.
The SSN organises a scientific congress and symposia every year. For the general public, the SSN regularly publishes books, booklets, leaflets, posters with information on nutrition and also uses electronic media. In order to reach the entire Swiss population, the majority of the products and the services are provided in, at least, two languages (German/French), partially also in Italian. The society’s newspaper “Tabula”, which is published four times a year, picks up new topics related to nutrition. Other services provided are electronic mailings for the media, as well as the service of food information “Nutrinfo®”. Financially supported by the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO), the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT), the SSN manages the “Nutrinet – Network for Nutrition and Health” as well as the centre of competence in nutrition “education and health, Swiss network”.
