On 16 April 2019, the Swiss Phenology Day with the theme "Phenology and seasonality on the southern side of the Alps" was hosted in Ticino at the Campus Ricerca Cadenazzo (Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL and Agroscope). From a climatic point of view, Ticino is located in a transition zone towards a Mediterranean climate. Compared to other Swiss locations, the effects of climate change on nature can already be detected and studied there. Research focuses on forest fires, sweet chestnuts and neobiota. During a tour, we were able to see, among other things, sweet chestnuts that were infested with the sweet chestnut gall wasp. From the agricultural side, we were informed about the breeding of adapted and resistant varieties.
