Inhalt

Lake Constance, an ecosystem in change

Harald Hetzenauer, International Commission for the protection of Lake Constance (IGKB)

Recognising the challenge of evolving eutrophication, the countries Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Austria and Switzerland founded the International Commission for the protection of Lake Constance- IGKB - in 1959. In the first decades the activities of the IGKB focused on the reduction of nutrients and anthropogenic pollution. With the beginning of the new millenium anthropogenic pressure on the shore line came to the fore. A lakewide action program was started to assess the shore line and assign the potenzial for renaturation. In the recent years invasive neozoans like the quagga mussel and the implications of climate change are the most important topics at Lake Constance.
